If you are stuck in one place for a while working or for whatever reason, or have been waiting for the right moment to pull the plug and start a vagabonding trip, you could volunteer to host some couchsurfers. Its not as dodgey as it sounds letting people stay in your home, and it gives you a great opportunity to meet travelers and stay connected to people of that mindset while you are stuck at home.

Anyone have hosting experiences to share?

I did it 3 times in Europe and LOVED it!  Was a bit hesitant at first but it was well worth it.  Some cooked, took me out, introduced me to friends, and some even paid for my drinks!  Each experience was unique and wonderful in its own way.
In Paris I stayed in a "true" flat.  I was actually sleeping in the kitchen!
DO it!
And whenever anyone is in Fort Collins, CO…look me up on couchsurfing.  I host!

i'm on that site, it has beena roller coaster ride for me.  i have met a couple in the next town over, plus had a guy from ohio come to kansas, and we all hung out a t a river fest and drank beer, it was pretty kool.

then shortly after that, i hosted a young couple from Oregon, we got a long and everything, then after that i had a really dry spell of travlers, then it picked up and was going to host like a single lady that was traveling around like a wet nurse (thats what she said.), but she told me if she was going to stop or not, then later that week, i had a group of college cyclist crossing America, when i called to see how they were doing, or how they were away, the one answered the cell phone and said they took a different route, so they would not be stopping here.

just a few months ago, i told a guy that he can stay here, but he never showed up or called.  so i just changed the my status to couch not available.

but the weird thing is that, i write to the other people i have met and, they never rite back ro anything.

so val8425, can i add you as a friend to my couch surfing friends.  what name do you go by on there. or area.
must be the way of traveler.
