I thought about posting this on the previous thread titled backpacks, but that ones getting a bit long and I think messages are getting lost/skipped over on it now so I'm starting a new thread  Smiley
I've just spent the past 9 months in Europe with the 35 litre Osprey Aura 35 and I love it, but my husband has ordered me the Deuter Futura Pro 34 SL to take to Asia because we will be flying a lot.  In Europe, my Aura bag wouldn't fit into the airline size-checkers easily because of the metal bars that create the air mesh ventilation system.  Has anyone flown a lot in Asia (perhaps with Air Asia in particular) and could tell me if they are really strict about your bag having to slide in and out of the size-checker easily? In Europe I encountered problems with Ryanair and Germanwings, but had no problem with Aer Lingus or Aegean.
Also, I'm wondering what the heck you guys are taking with you that fills a 50 litre pack!  We both have 35 litre packs and we always see people with these big packs and wonder what the heck they are carrying that we're not, because we feel like we're carrying too much already!  We've got two pairs of pants and 4 shirts each, 7 pairs of socks and underwear each, two laptops, chargers, an SLR and a point and shoot camera, chargers for the cameras, an i-pod, a few computer cables (to plug in for LAN access), two bags of toiletries, one bag of dry toiletries like q-tips etc, a pair of flip flops each, two small umbrellas, two sweaters each, a nalgene water bottle, two sleepsheets and pillow cases, two microfiber towels, and a daypack which gets packed into my bag when we travel.  What else can you take that fills up that much space?
