I've been doing a lot of work on the site lately, a much needed face lift and some tweaks here and there.

I'm looking for contributors!  If you have some content you think startbackpacking readers would be interested, send it in!  In exchange you get a link back to your site or blog and a lovely mugshot on the article not to mention the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing that you may have just helped a fellow backpacker with something.  Stuff that has been published before is OK, just re-spin it to make it unique.

To send an article in, please make sure it is 400 - 1000 words and in a plain text file. I don't want to feed Microsoft!  Please attach a headshot photo and a brief bio for the "meet the author" box.

Well - after a few days of being foobar, the forums are now fixed and running smooth......sorry about that!

Thousands of Wordpress sites hosted with GoDaddy.com (including this one!) were hacked/compromised.

I've just spent the last 24 hours rebuilding the site and forums. There shouldn't be any data loss.  There may still be some bugs, you'll notice the homepage for Startbackpacking.com looks a little "off".

Sorry about that - I keep Wordpress upgraded but these guys were elite enough to get into GoDaddy's server side.

Gag...well, thank goodness for gigantic web hosts who are usually the target of hacks, once again Startbackpacking.com's server was hit by eval/javascript injection code. If you don't know what that means, just know that it cost me about five hours of my life today that could have been spent doing something more fun!  Huh

Things should be back on track, but hit me up if the sidebar to the site looks funny or you get any messages from your browser when visiting Startbackpacking.com
