Im a 28 year old lad from Newcastle in England. I plan to start travelling alot more over the next few years. Im lucky enough to have briefly visited many countries over the last couple of years as I work on ship. When I say briefly visited, normally only a few hours so my visits aint really been cultural, normally a piss for a release from work! But plan to start using my leave to start exploring a lil more in depth.
I cant do long travels for work obviously (im lucky enough to actually enjoy my job as it aint no 9 to 5 hell in an office, and want to keep my career), I work 3 months on 2 months off, so can spare at least a month of each leave and hope to start visiting a new place every time I get off work. I get off this ship in Jan and am going to Thailand or Bali for 3 weeks, really cant decide which as of yet, prob come down to cost of flights. I want a travelling experience and not a hotel/holiday.
Other places on the visit/travel list are obviously alot more of Asia want to get more than the lil tasters I get from my occasional few hours of free time when we in port, and South Africa, Capetown in particular, I have friends from there so will wait till our leaves coincide and visit them so they can be my company and guide. Getting time off work at the same time is the hardest part ha. I also want to go down the Amazon in a lil put-put boat at some stage, don't know why, have always wanted this tho! And I will start touring the states on my time off. I want to go back to Austrailia and NZ. Never been off the ship in Russia, so thats gotta get done too. These are just a few on the list, in all fairness, the list is endless and I will never actually manage them all! Too many places, so little time.
Im lucky enough to get 2 months off work at a time and get a salary during this so travelling is very achievable, only draw back I have is missing friends and family, Im already away from them 8 or 9 months of the year for work, then if I travel will almost never see anyone, but this is the life I choose, being a sailor is more than a job I feel, its a lifestyle, and in all fairness nothing really changes at home so will not be missing much. Will all be there for me when I do return for my short visits.
Onwards and upwards, looking forward to the new challenges and experiences that are in front of me!
