FORGET the old-school tricks (like using a match, Vaseline, etc) these things are nasty and you do not want them regurgitating diseased blood back into your wound.

This is the CORRECT way (taught by both the ARMY and the locals in Borneo) to remove a leech:

Lord help me if I ever get a leech stuck to me! But at least now I know what to do with it!

Ha! No worries, they really won't hurt you...unless you panic and squeeze infection back inside of your bloodstream.

I just had one on my foot while trekking in Sumatra a couple of weeks ago. I just let it feed for a while, it got fat, then dropped off and I stomped on it. At least it got to enjoy one last meal.  Grin
