Money saving tips during your travel time!

I here give you the best two options for saving your money during a trip.
You can follow the tips:
1. For an airline ticket, before you use frequent-flier miles, please check the offers of the partner businesses. Sometimes you can save more money than by using your miles to pay for a hotel.
2.Rent a car for the week-end than a day as weekend rates offer a much better deal than daily rates.
If you have any other tips please post here.

I'm a big fan of free walking tours. There's no tickets to get, no reservations to make you just show up at the meeting point and go! The guides work for tips, so you tip them what you feel the tour is worth. FWT are geared towards backpackers, so unlike other tours where they only show you names and dates, the guild will tell much more detailed stuff. It's a great chance to meet and mingle with other backpackers and when the tour is done, you can go back to the sites with the people you just met. Plus it's free!
PROTIP: Ask the guild to mark on your map all the best restaurants, clubs and bars!

Tony, that is definitely the best money saving tip I could give as well!
Also, if you are a student make sure you bring a school ID because there are always student discounts!

Definitely! A student ID card (real or fake) will save you a load of cash on transportation and entrance fees in China, Egypt, Peru (Machu Picchu), etc...
Just as a side note, the fake student ID cards that so many people make on Khao San Road in Bangkok no longer work at Machu Picchu -- I was busted.

I've noticed different prices on different hostel booking sites. So they must be getting commission. I assume that you can just walk up to these places and book in without doing it online
(and probably save a bit of money)
- Yes?
I'm planning to go to Europe from London
(when Euroline have their cheap offers)
and I will be out of season, so figure to just find a hostel and book in for a couple nights.

Hey Graefyl,
Absolutely! And you will inevitably get a better price without the middle man and/or them advertising higher prices. I've even been able to negotiate or get discounts when walking in off the street.
Cheers!
