I will be attending college in Boudha, Nepal beginning this fall. I rented a very small, unfurnished, very basic apartment in Kathmandu in 1996 for about $30 a month (only stayed one month).

Most likely I will simply opt for an extended stay in a nearby budget hotel, but I am wondering if anyone rented an apartment in Nepal recently? Is it still a feasible option for a foreigner? Is it possible to procure a short term lease (as I will likely be taking the summers off to travel)?

While I am on the topic of accommodation, what is the least I can expect to pay for the cheapest budget hotels?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Joel,

I'd like to know the answer to that as well.  Wow....$1 a day to sleep, that is super-budget....even cheaper than staying in hostels and guesthouses.

Cheers!
