1  Destinations / Southeast Asia / Where do you buy travel guides in Singapore? on: July 24, 2009, 07:44:48 AM
I'm going on a holiday in Southeast Asia soon and I'm planning to buy some travel guides. Which are your favourite bookstores to buy travel guides in Singapore?
2  Travel / Travel Gear / Portable Photo Storage on: July 10, 2009, 06:30:32 AM
I'm after a portable photo storage device but can't seem to find many stores that stock them. I've had a look online but really have no idea what I should be looking for in one.

I first came across one when one of my mates from Europe came on a trip with one (and I later found out I needed more than just my SD cards which ran out of space about day 10 of our trip!)

What I do know is I need to be able to transfer direct from the SD cards my camera uses and that I would prefer not to have to install multitudes of new programmes onto my computer (though I'm aware I may have to install something) as one product I found says you need to buy an additional programme on top of the product.

Does anyone know of anywhere that stocks them in Australia?
Or any online sites?
Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I should be looking for?
Should I get one with an image viewer?
Does anyone have good/ bad experiences with them?
3  Destinations / North America / NJ Suburbs and State police need to be cut by 50% on: June 25, 2009, 06:44:35 AM
Its gotten out of hand. They dont even do there jobs anymore. They spend more time setting up seat belt check points and sitting there using a radar gun then anything else.

NJ has the second highest amount of police officers per capita.

I have no problems with Citys having a lot of police, but does a middle class town of 15,000 really need 30 police officers? It's ridiculous. cant drive down the street for 5 minutes without seeing a cop.
4  Travel / Travel Gear / pack size on: June 19, 2009, 05:37:14 AM
Hey, I've got a quick question:
I am planning on buying my first pack this summer. What I was wondering is, what size do you all think I should get? I plan to do back country camping with it, and also to travel (ie to other countries and stay in hostels and the like). I have substantial experience with back country camping, and I talked to two guys that I have been camping with before. One of them recommended a 2500 cubic inch pack (roughly 40L) the other said I should get a 3500 cubic inch (55-60L) pack.
What size do you think I should get? I would like to be able to carry it on a plane.

15  Destinations / Africa / Best time to go to Africa? on: November 02, 2008, 02:46:09 AM
Hi all,

I'm thinking of incorporating about 6 weeks of volunteer work into my travels next year, and it'll probably be in either South Africa, Tanzania or Kenya.

I'll be able to do this anywhere within late August to December-ish, but I'm unsure of which times would be best weather-wise. I'm really not into hot weather at all, let alone hot African weather, so the later months are obviously out, and cold weather/rain would be undesirable.

So what about August/September? Is it still pretty cold then, or does Africa warm up faster than Australia?

I have absolutely no idea about weather patterns in Africa, obviously. Thanks for the help, if you can!
